Joey DAMMIT! Is a mixed media collage artist based in Toronto. Born in Madeira, Portugal, he immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 4. After an early stint as a frontman for a Toronto band, DAMMIT! Enrolled in a graphic design course at Humber College – and quickly gained a reputation as a cartoonist in the advertising field. He soon left the ad world to pursue a career in fine arts. DAMMIT!’s collage work is a chaotic mish-mash of any medium he can get his hands on; paint, photocopies, textiles, wood, and even Crayola crayons. The Toronto Star has hailed his work as “Warhol on a head on collision with David Lynch.”
“There’s something about living in the big city that energizes me creatively. I could never live in the burbs, or in the country. As a pop culture artist, just being around billboards, the architecture, the people, gets my creative juices flowing. I can’t help but live artfully, whta with all the urban stimuli surrounding me 24 hours a day.”
